Seoul High Court
“So, everything is going fine. Myungchan and I understand each other very well.” Sungyeol explained.
“Good… good..” Judge Lee Tae Young who was reading a book said without turned his gaze. The athmosphere turned awkwardly silent. Sungyeol was a bit nervous before he continued the next words.
“So… I have to go to LA for a few days. May I?”
“Sure.” Judge Tae Young simply answers, still didn’t set his eyes off of his book. Sungyeol gasped a bit, surprised for what he just heard.
“I’ll come to your house for an inspection. If everything is okay, you and Myungchan can go to LA.” Judge Tae Young continued.
“But, your honour, Myungchan has just settled in, can’t I go alone?” Sungyeol reasoned.
“Why? Now, that you two well settled in, a holiday together seems like a good idea.” Judge Tae Young said calmly.
“Holiday? I have to go there on important business, and Myungchan can stay with Kim Sunggyu.” Sungyeol said feel a bit annoyed.
Judge Tae Young llifted his head up from his book. “Who is Kim Sunggyu?”
“My personal assistant and also my driver, but I’ve taken him as my elder brother.” Sungyeol explained. “He and Myungchan are so close too. And..”
“You have kept Myungchan with a driver?” Judge Tae Young said boldly.
“It’s not like that. Myungchan loves Sunggyu a lot and Sunggyu loves him a lot too. They love me a lot, I love them a lot. Basicly we love each other a lot.” Sungyeol tried to convince judge Tae Young which was looking at him sharply. Then the athmosphere turned back awkwardly silent.
“So, when will you come?” Sungyeol doubtly asked. His eyes were filled with hope.
“Whenever I feel like, you may go now.”
Sungyeol tried to redeem his anger as he said. “Can you please come before next week? I have to go to LA on 28th.”
Judge Tae Young didn’t give him an answer as he kept busy with his book. Sungyeol really feel that he’s gonna explode but tried his best to stay calm. “I’m going now.” But again he just got a silent as an answer.
“Goodbye.. Your honour.” He said before left the room.
Happy Together Kindergarten
Bomi sat in the classroom an hour early before classes, grading papers and shaking her head with a chuckle at some of the papers she read from her cute students. She reached over to her mug of favourite Latte, taking a sip as she wrote a grade on a paper, moving it aside. She sputtered slightly when she came across a worksheet from Myungchan. Sje placed her coffee down, smiling slightly. She scanned Myungchan’s creation. A simple drawing with mostly green color covered all the image and a big “DADDY” above the picture.
‘Why he portrayed his father like a monster? Does his father cruel with him?’ Bomi wondered as she flips the paper to see what he had wrote behind.
“I love daddy but why daddy didn’t love me? He never hug me and kiss me. He never play with me. Does daddy hate me? How good if I have mommy so I can tell her to smack daddy’s butt for ignoring me.”
“Oh my, why did he wrote like this?” Bomi's heart sank from what she'd read. She really feel sympathy towards Myungchan. So, that’s the reason behind all of his bad behavior. She really want to know more about Myungchan. His profile didn’t mention about anything that related to his past except his general background. Nothing in the file that mention about his relationship between he and his father. She couldn’t ask the principal either.
‘Why my heart feel so hurt.’ Bomi told as she clutch her hand in front of her chest. Without her realize, tears are slowly fell down. She didn’t know why this matter really disturbing her. A responsibility as a teacher? Or she felt hurt coz Myungchan was her reflection. Being abandoned in the orphanage by the bullies. Being left by her only bestfriend. Being unwanted as an adopted child. That’s the way she spent her childhood. She doesn’t want to see the same thing in her life repeat again, not her or anyone else.
Flashback
"Didn't I say I wanted a boy?" Bomi heard Mr. Choi stressing to his wife as he closed the door, leaving the little child alone in her new room.
"The agency messed it up alright? It's not my fault that it turned out this way!" Mrs. Choi shouted back.
"Ya, right! You always push the blame around." Mr. Choi was heard asserting aloud. "Forget it… We don’t need another girl… You take care of her."
"What? Me?! You are the one who wanted to adopt a child in the first place!" Mrs Choi screamed back.
Little Bomi didn't give a thought or care at her new parent's argument over her. Besides lecturing her with rules and her daily responsibilities in the house, they spoke nothing good to her.
She didn't see the need to cry over such trivial matters. Adults could be so predictable and boring. Why did she even agree to let herself get adopted in the first place?
End of Flashback
"Bomi?”
A soft voice interrupted her thought. Bomi quickly wipes away her tears as her brown round eyes darted to the door, Sunggyu and Myungchan were standing there. She cleared her throat, motioning them to come in.
“Morning, Gyu Oppa. Morning Myungchan.” Bomi smiles and gets up from her seat.
“Morning, Bomi.” Sunggyu smiles back at her, his right hand was holding on Myungchan’s while the other hand holding his backpack.
“Morning, seongsangnim. Why did your eyes so red? Are you crying, seongsangnim?” Myungchan asked politely. Bomi was silent for a while as she kept her eyes on Myungchan.
“Seongsangnim?” Myungchan said as he tugged on Bomi’s shirt making Bomi gasps a bit. “Ah, I..I’m okay, Myungchan. My eyes were allergic to dust.” Bomi lied.
“Ah, so, you were allergic too? My daddy was allergic too but he was allergic with Taro.” Myungchan giggles as he recalled the hamster incident. Bomi raises her brow in confusion. “Taro?”
“Ne, my hamster. Daddy was allergic to my hamster and sneezing all the time.” Myungchan explained with a big grin.
‘His father was allergic to hamster?’ Bomi thoughts.
“Seongsangnim, why are you not sneezing like daddy?” Myungchan asked again.
“Not every allergic shown with a sneeze, Myungchan. Each person has a different reaction with their allergic.” Bomi smiles at him as she continued. “Um.. Myungchan, why don’t you sit on your seat, I have something to talk with Gyu-gyu ajhussi. And after this, I have a surprise for you.” Bomi said and winks at the little Myungchan.
“Really? What surpise?” Myungchan widened his eyes curiously, making Bomi chuckled at him. “It’s a secret. You’ll find out later. Okay?” Bomi patted his head lightly. Myungchan rolled his eyes in excitement. “Um, okay. I’ll be a good boy.” He said casually as he walks toward his seat.
“Oppa, let’s talk outside.” Bomi motioned Sunggyu to follow her.
“Don’t make something bad again, arasso?” Sunggyu added before following Bomi.
“What happen, Bomi? Why are you look so scary?” Sunggyu looks curious.
“Can you tell me about Myungchan’s parents?” Bomi straight to the point. Sunggyu gasped in surprise at Bomi’s question, doesn’t know how to answer her.
“Oppa, please tell me. As a teacher, I have rights to know. Coz this is related to his attitude and personality in the class. I have to now why he was being like that. There always be a reason behind all of this. Please tell me, oppa.” Bomi couldn’t control her urge to know all of Myungchan’s story. She has to know why Myungchan like that. Sunggyu remained silet for a while, he turned his head away to avoid Bomi’s gaze. He couldn’t tell him the truth coz this was about Sungyeol’s reputation. He didn’t know why but he has a good feeling about Bomi, he trusted Bomi and he felt that telling him the truth are the best thing to do.
“Oppa… Why are so quite? Please, I need to know.” Bomi urged as she shooks Sunggyu’s shoulder lightly, taken him back from his thought.
“Um… actually I have promised Sungyeol to keep this secret. But I think you need to know as his teacher.” Sunggyu said slowly. “But promise me that you will keep this secret especially from Myungchan.” Sunggyu said with a very serious tone. His voice a bit trembling.
“I promise you, Oppa.”
“Actually Myungchan is not Sungyeol’s biological son.” Sunggyu started with a low voice.
“You mean he was adopted, didn’t he?” Bomi questioned.
“You can say like that. But he was accidentally or for exact being forced to be adopted.” Sunggyu continued.
“I don’t get it? What does it mean?” Bomi raised her brows in confusion.
“A year ago, Sungyeol accidentally hit a family in a car accident. The only victim alived was their only son. Then instead got imprisonment, the judge punished him with a very unpredicted decision. He has to take care of that orphan child until he is 18 years old.”
“And it means Myungchan is that orphan child, am I right?” Bomi concluded which is got a slow nod from Sunggyu.
“Sungyeol in the other hand was felt guilty but he just couldn’t accept the new member of his life that easy. Being a young success business man, this matter really disturbing him and he just didn’t ready to face it yet.” Sunggyu explained.
“So, that’s why his relationship with Myungchan was bad.” Bomi resumed again.
“How did you know, Bomi?” Sunggyu surprised.
“Myungchan wrote it on his paper that I asked him to do. So that’s why I need to know, Oppa. Myungchan is a good boy. He just feel lonely. All he need is a love and he really expect it from his father, at least that’s all he know about him, Mr. Lee Sungyeol.” Bomi said between anger and annoyed. ‘How could he treated the young child who knows nothing like this. It’s so unfair for Myungchan.’
“I did feel pity with Myungchan but I didn’t have any strength to do something. Please don’t misunderstand Sungyeol. He just have a bit difficult time. But I’m sure that by the time, everything will slowly change.”
Bomi remained silent, her mind was wandering somewhere. She couldn’t stay away from this matter, she just couldn’t see Myungchan suffer again. He needs love, he needs affection, he needs attention and the only key for all of this is the one that he called him Daddy, Lee Sungyeol.
“Hyung, I think I have to meet this man, Mr. Lee Sungyeol.” Bomi finally said.
